Don Padgett? ...a .399 hitter in 233 at-bats? C'mon ;)

2e33 for Hornsby.

Great choice guys.

Please someone put a team together, using Hornsby.
Use Reb Russell in the corner.
Give Meusel a chance to show off his 24 or so hit chances.
Please use Padgett behind the plate.
Maybe Greenwell as well.
Don't forget to add Cy Williams somewhere...
Can't forget Smokey. So you can move Padgett to 1B.
Also can't forget Otis "My Man" Nixon with the Clemente arm in CF.

I'm no ATG expert. I play mostly theme leagues.
I can spot usable/unusable cards when I see them though.

Can't agree more with most of this. I'm all for adding. But I do find some of the card nominations odd when a number of teams need help across ALL ERA's.

I made the Meusel nomination because it’s different than the other Meusel cards; instead of a small ball staple, it’s more oriented for a power park. Good defense, plays 3b, bulletproof. I don’t necessarily think it should be as high as 7m, but I’d like to get a chance to use it at 80m or 100m in more of a hitters park.

At least for my part, I have no issue with any player in the set if they are priced correctly. At some point, that may change since the pool is so huge, but more new cards is a good thing overall. But heck, sometimes card pricing seems obvious until usage is considered and how they fit relative to their position. Seems high to me, but I'm no expert. Cheers

Apart from our Strat World here, I am curious about Meusel's 33 homers in that season. Other than the 24 he hit once before, those numbers are much beyond his other years. Perhaps someone here has more insight into that - or maybe the spinach crop was particularly good that year.

Maybe Musial got a taste of the experimental serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America.
After that it was lost to history until rediscovered by BALCO.

That's a great question. Strangely, he led the AL in homeruns that year. Ruth had 25, Gehrig had 20. Then in 1926 Ruth had 47 and no one else in the AL even hit 20 I believe. And Meusel's 1925 33 HR season was a season where the AL hit about 20% more HRs than the couple years prior or after. So it was a mini-peak in local time.

Maybe he had tighter balls.

just looked at the '25 season and the MVP voting. How does Roger Peckingpaugh win the MVP? even on his own team there were better options (Goose Goslin).

I don't agree with the above assessment, in particular "I can spot usable/unusable cards when I see them though." Cy Williams is a usefully priced dh that I waited a long time for. Too bad he is a 4 but... Nixon is a useful small ball, low cap player and Burgess starts on my first post 19.4 add team, but what do I know?

Pagett and Russell shouldn't be in the set IMHO, huge outliers with limited AB. Meusel got screwed by the pricing committee, I was very much looking forward to that card.

Hornsby is a very viable addition at a nice price point, and Greenwell should be a decent dh against righties for Red Sox theme leagues. One can always cherry pick parts to look bad as a team, but that is so far removed from how they will actually be used as to render the above argument against them a ridiculous absurdity.
