Rick Sutcliffe

PostSun Jul 28, 2019 5:12 pm

we have his 84 card that includes his stint with Cleveland where he was 4-5 with horrible stats. he was traded to the Cubs and went 16-1 with a 2.69 ERA. anyone know if Strat put out his 1984 card with his Cubs stats only? in ATG we have a combo card. thanks

He was virtually unhittable upon coming to the Cubs. Was a treat to watch the Red Baron pitch that 2/3 of a season.

He was unhittable until game 5 vs the Padres, when he cost me 3 months rent!

Just went back and watched the key innings of that Game 5. I know it was a different game then, but that was some positively negligent managing. Sutcliffe was gassed.

Yes. Plus, what were the odds of Garvey (at that point in his career) going deep off of Lee Smith in his prime? What a bunch of BS!

Yes, Sutcliffe had an SOM card for his 1984 Cy Young Award season with the Cubs. It was great against lefties, but not so good against righties. I also believe that Sutcliffe had a separate card for his Indians stats that year as well.

Met's 1984 charge could never quite catch the stellar Cubs. As a Mets fan it was vexing!

Memory fades. Was that the year a blazing Darling injured him thumb in early September? Maybe it was 84. Or maybe 85 or 87...not sure.

Anyway, every big series with the Mets and Cubs seemed to feature a smackdown by a dominant Sutcliffe. I hated him. Hated him. Hated him. Respected him. But mostly, just hated him.
