OF assist record?

PostTue Jun 23, 2015 5:14 pm

I've never payed too much attention to it before, but on one of my teams Bobby Bonds ('69 card playing in CF) has 27 assists with 12 games to play. I spot checked a few of my old teams and can't find anybody else who came close to him.

Anybody have a personal best?

Not sure what the record is, but it must be in the 30s. Unofficially, the best I have is 29 by a single player:
Mel Ott 2(-2) $9.04M with 29 assits (plus several seasons with mid-20s assists)
Devo White 1(-3) $1.79M with 29 assists (only time I have used him); as a quick aside, Devo's great defense, 489 POs, 29 assists, 5 errors and 91 of 92 on X Out opportunities comes with a heavy price - a .252 OBP!

I have the $6.96M Ricky Henderson 1(0) with 26 assits through game 150 in a current league.

Another assits leader of note is the $3.51M Brett Butler card. Played three times with the results of 26, 25, and 24 assits. And that is from a 2(+1) player.

I find the dynamics of outfield assits very interesting. Often my teams with the better outfiled ranges and arms record lower assist totals than expected. I guess either HAL or teamsGM run less on the better outfields. For example:
Gwynn 1(-2), Geronimo 1(-5) and Simmons 1(-1) combined for 24 assists over an entire season
Charleston 1(-1), Colavito 2(-5), Murphy 1(-3), Clark (3(0) and Salmon 2(-4) combined for 19 assists.

These teams just don't measure up to Brett Butler in terms of assists!

Took a look at a few teams of mine, and I found Shawn Green at 30 and Willie Mays at 27 (both on the same team)!!
To many teams, not enough time! Must be an addiction!!

You're likely correct about the lack of chances taken against the great arms.

A softball anecdote: At my best, I had a weak arm, needed the cutoff man to start running back at the crack of the bat, I played LC. The guy in RC was slower afoot, but could 1 hop a throw to home from the fence. The 3 years we played side by side, I at least doubled his assists. I got a few guys try to stretch a single at 2nd, and slow guys at 3rd and home just taking advantage of my arm. No one tried for 2nd on his arm, and very few tested him at the plate with less than 2 outs. There were a few times I'd catch a ball on the run and as we intersected I'd toss him the ball to throw to the IF
