I'm generally in favor of adding cards and representing all eras of baseball history, but Valen's point resonates deeply with me. Having a guy with 60 game appearances (Barnes) with a card whose value matches -or even exceeds - the best card for people like Hank Aaron and Stan Musial is beyond ridiculous. I'm thinking his addition was in response to requests to supplement a position without a lot of high-end options, but the historical truth is that there were few players at these levels at that position; artificially creating one just cheapens the entire game. We have other players in this game with similar situations. I have a dear friend whose knowledge of baseball players throughout history is encyclopedic, but when I mentioned Johnny Miljus (we're both Pirate fans) he was befuddled; why on earth, he asked, is a guy like that in a pool of all-time greats. I explained the game here originated with teams, but he still questioned how a guy with limited accomplishment can get a relatively high priced card vis-a-vis other players at his position.
Each of us has a favorite player or players who are not all-time greats or even nearly so, but if they are added at all - and I think that is an open question - I think they can be emplaced in the pile of guys whose salaries are under a million; in this way you can place some of your favorite names on your bench. Unless I'm mistaken, I think there are still players whose MVP seasons are not available and I'd like to see those additions first.
