Mike Powers/Ray Chapman-
He is the second of only two major league players to die as a result of an injury on the field. The first was Mike "Doc" Powers ( I always thought it was Ray Chapman) On Apr 12th 1909 (106 years ago yesterday) was injured in the 1st game ever played in Shibe Park, crashing into a wall chasing a foul pop-up. He sustained internal injuries and died two weeks later from complications from three intestinal surgeries. Chapman was beaned by Carl Mays took two steps and collapsed on the field. Subsequently died in the hospital.

NOTE: Chapman's wife gave birth to a baby girl after his death and named the baby RAE ...baby died of TB a few years later and then his wife committed suicide...she could not handle the loss of Ray or Rae.

Earl Whitehill...His wife's picture was the lady on the box of Sun-Maid raisins you ate as a kid
