The world's a little bit sadder place, and not just for Cubs fans. Talk about a guy who loved the game!

"Let's play two!"

Perhaps the greatest player to never play in the World Series.

I grew up listening to Jack Brickhouse singing the praises of Ernie. Farewell Ernie, we'll remember an icon of baseball.

He will be missed. As a kid growing up, I watched him play many games at Forbes Field vs the Pirates.
He was one of my favorite players of all time.

Ditto that sentiment, seeing Ernie play first in Sportsman's Park, then Busch Stadium vs. the Redbirds. Really felt bad for him and Cubs in '69 when they collapsed to let the Miracle Mets into the playoffs and Series.

@daynperry: Ernie Banks debuted on 9/17/53. Cubs should make 9/17 Ernie Banks Day and play an annual home doubleheader.

Now cracks a noble heart. And flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest.

Even Shakespeare would have been a fan of Mr. Cub.
