lotta Forbes 57

PostMon Dec 22, 2014 7:51 pm

I'm in a new $80 mil non-DH league where SIX managers have chosen to play in Forbes 57 (me included). Any opinions on which of these teams will do best? Kind of an interesting test for different roster constructions for that park.

team 1:
rotation: Mahler, Ring, Patten, Sewell
pen: Fingers, Miljus, Ellis
IF: Oscar Heavy Johnson, Terry, Blair, Delahanty, Dahlen
OF: Weintraub/1.5 mil Tommy Davis, Willard Brown, Thompson

team 2:
rotation: Kaat, Hudlin, Kennedy, Currie
pen: Quisenberry (4 mil), Narleski (3 mil), Brewer, Dygert
IF: Thomas, Anson, Avila, Mathews (6.97), Wells (8.48)
OF: Ted Williams, (10.70) Combs, O'Doul (6 mil)

team 3:
rotation: Drysdale (9 mil), Score, Daley, Blake
pen: Giusti, Hoerner, Sambito
iF: Roseboro/Lake, Sisler (7 mil), Carew (5 mil), Maisel, Jeter
OF: Hamilton (9 mil), Geronimo/Kreevich, Kelly

team 4:
rotation: Higbe, Weaver, Trout, Vuckovich
pen: Page, McKain, McBean
IF: Meyers, Brouthers, Lajoie (8.21), 3B Wagner, Appling (7 mil)
OF: Stone, Torriente, Gwynn

team 5: Johnson, Mathewson, Brown, Mayer
pen: Bolin, cheap McGraw, cheap Tincup
IF: Breshnahan (cheap), McCormick (cheap), Melillo, Cox, Wallace
OF: Magee, Bell (cheap), Kaline (cheap)

team 6:
rotation: Sadecki, Hughson, Sanderson, Coombs
pen: Murray, Fosnow, Clear
IF: Boone, Cavaretta, Herman, Jennings, Beckwith
OF: Duffy, Ashburn, Donlin

I would post links, but I don't think that's fair if someone doesn't want their team specifically identified on a public message board.

There's also a Royals and Griffith, so the small-ball type players are pretty well distributed.

I like 4 and 5 the best. If pressed to pick between the two, I guess 4

Team 1 isn't bad. I am not sure why they have so much invested in the bullpen, though.

Team 2 I don't like at all. In this ballpark mix, if you're in one of the low HR parks you shouldn't have ANYBODY with 8 ballpark HR on their card, and this team has 3.

Team 3 has a great offense but I don't like any of the starters except Score in that park.

Team 4 has gone all in on offense. I don't like Kirby Higbe in Forbes 57 - his strength is keeping the ball in the park and his weakness is allowing a lot of baserunners. I don't know if it has enough bullpen either. And that is by far the worst value of the Lajoie cards.

Team 5 I don't like at all. I realize it has a great pitching staff, but I don't like the idea of spending more on pitchers than hitters and I don't see how it's going to score runs. If I had this team in Forbes I would have Vince Coleman and Maury Wills on my team for sure.

Team 6 is undoubtedly the best of the bunch; if the bullpen is set up right Dale Murray will throw 300 innings or more. And it will score runs, lots of them.

I don't like any of 'em... cuz I'm in that league too. :D

I disagree about not having anybody with a full 8 diamonds playing in Forbes... but it has to be the right player. For example, I'd much rather have the '41 Ted over the '48 Ted in Forbes. I've also used the '93 Bonds card there with a lot of success.

Good luck Tom and the rest of the Forbesies! Yankee '48 is the place to be!!
