Note: While I was in the process of writing this, a couple of other pro-Davis messages popped up, but since I've written it, I'll let it fly....

It looks like Tommy Davis 1962 could use a little push, so here is....a word for Tommy Davis. ;)

In 1962, young Dodger named Tommy Davis hit .346 with 27 HR and 153 RBI. Now 153 RBI seems like an extremely good total in any era, but in the 1960s, it was kind of mind boggling. I was a young baseball fan at the time, and I couldn't quite wrap my mind around that number. In fact, I'd never seen anything like it...and for many years, I would never see anything like it again.

In fact, Davis's 153 was the highest RBI total over nearly a fifty year period. Vern Stephens and Ted Williams each topped Davis's number with 159 in 1949. Then, forty-nine years later, in 1998, Sammy Sosa (158) and Juan Gonzalez (157) both topped Davis in the same year.

This means that throughout the 1950s, the 1960s, the 1970s, the 1980s, and most of the 1990s, Davis's 153 was the best single-season RBI total that baseball produced. In fact, over that period, the closest anyone came was Al Rosen's 145 in 1953.

So not only was Davis's 1962 season his best ever. It was also a historic season in its own right. Davis has other cards in ATG, but none of them represent him as his best.

Rosen's 1953 card was rightly added in ATG8's most recent "expansion." I think Davis's 1962 card's time has come. It deserves a spot in ATG8. If you have a vote to spare, you might consider spending it on Davis.

Charles Johnson - I have always liked defensive catchers and he was one of the best when I was growing up. Plus he doesn't have a card.

Tommy Davis - I was leaning towards voting for him anyway but the messages about him made him a lock for my vote.

Cecil Fielder - I have been wanting this card for a long time. He was my favorite Tiger when I was a kid. I can't really use his existing card since its a joke. 51 home runs should be enough to get his card in.

Shawn Green - I chose him because I enjoyed watching him and Delgado during their Blue Jays years. It would be cool to have both of them on a team.

Steve Kemp - I nominated him. I am a Tigers fan. He doesn't have a card. I think all those reasons are valid.

There are a lot of great cards to choose from. I can't wait to draft some of them.

Im voting for the positions that we could use more top cards for:
Not tied to any era.

Translation-
2b, SS, 3B or C.

The Cano and Lazzeri cards are 2b
Tulo SS
and
Pendleton 3B

will also agree with GB on Greinke.

I agree with Saltman that we can use more good cards at 2b, ss, 3b and c...and I will add that this voting group needs more pitching.

I put forward Tulo at ss for his great glove year, Gary Carter as my C rep., Greinke (great year).

Felt I needed to add a vote a card that I felt just needed to be added because this really should be in ALL-Time Greats - 1923 Ruth - his ONLY MVP season with an offensive WAR 12.2 (his highest), and a defensive WAR 1.2 (his personal best fielding year). Should have been in there long ago. 8-)

Bautista doesn't have a card. Although not his best year, 54 home runs from a 4R third baseman, albeit 3e15, is a nice addition

Tulowitzki 1e7 with a 916 ops

Caminiti's MVP year

"Poosh em up" Lazzeri and a 991 ops

Averill's best year.

Many others I would love to vote for.

With all due respect to the Greinke supporters, he had an OPS against LHB of .651 and vs RHB of .574, which means he will probably be at least a 2R. His endurance rating will be *7. He had 1.073 WHIP with 7.7 hits per 9 - not exactly Maddux or Pedro numbers. Charlie Sweeney, on the other hand, had a WHIP of .817 with 6.6 hits per 9 and 6.2 K's per 9 (a lot of K's for that ERA). He will have a *9. IMHO, Sweeney is a much more usable option. Of course, you can take my opinion and 3.50 to Starbucks and get a cup of coffee ;)

I made my choices
Tommy Davis - This has already been discussed
Brady Anderson - I felt he needed a card, and I'm a sucker for lefty power hitting CF'ers
Kiki Cuyler - Thought it would be nice to have his best year
Earl Averill - same as Cuyler
Lyman Bostock - I have fond memories of this card, and it should be priced as to be a nice CF option in the 60 and 80 leagues

I really don't get why Gary Carter and Fred Lynn are getting so many votes. I thought the point of this was to get better cards for players or new players to add. Gary Carter's card won't be better than the best we currently got. I get Fred Lynn won ROY and MVP that year but it will be very similar to his current card and he already has 3 cards.

I am also really disappointed to see that Keeler's nominated card is not his best year. I can guarantee that next time we do this the best Keeler card will be nominated and voted in. So as of right now. We are looking at 3 irrelevant cards. It's Ashburn, Dimaggio and Mays all over again.

Can't agree more. Players that may not make this vote who have NO cards.

Steve Finley
Roger Metzger
Edgar Renteria
Steve Kemp
Bobby Abreu

But apparently we need another:

Ruth card would be his 5th. I get it's his MVP season.
Lynn his 4th. His ROY.
Gary Carter his 3rd Don't see why we need this.
Tommy Davis his 4th card. Yes its his best season.
Cuyler his 3rd card. See Davis.

So we get more cards of the SAME players and NO NEW 1st cards of the 5 I mentioned.

I would like to see players with multiple cards that make the top 20 be added but not counted towards the top 20...this way we know we get 20 new faces...just a thought
