At the present moment we've had 361 votes, which means at least 73 voters, and probably upwards of 75, since some voted for fewer than 5. And we're talking about it.
This is already a win for SOM, since we're engaged in this process and talking about it, and we will probably want to try out the players we've nominated and elected. Future lesson for SOM: engaging the player community pays.
There are 15 guys who have ten or more votes. These players have established solid support and most or all will probably make the cut by being among the top 20. A few guys have failed to get beyond 5 votes. Those players may well be lost causes at this point.
But I count 17 guys with between 6 and 9 votes. These 17 are the ones who are vying for the last five slots. A few votes either way will be decisive. So if you want to get behind one of those 17 guys who have less than ten votes, now is the time to actively campaign for them.
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing any of the following cards added: Cy Seymour, Charlie Sweeney (good small-ball bats); Cy Williams (neglected '20s OF star with some power); Mickey Vernon (solid franchise 1B); Shawn Green (recent star, ought to have a card); Edgar Renteria (recent GG SS who can hit); Jose Bautista (solid hitting recent reverse-righty 3b /RF).
Some of the above will make it in if they get just a few more votes. If you want to campaign for these or other cards--perhaps in the main ATG discussion list-- now's the time. Even if some of these players miss this time around, they'll get another chance in the next round, and you're building voter awareness by making a case for them.
