Garcia's Blog Part VI- Manager Ratings

PostThu Jan 17, 2013 5:25 pm

Hey guys,

I want to let everyone know that today we have published the first step to returning the manager ratings. Anyone who had played with the 2001 set on the old TSN site will now be able to view their old teams by going to “Your Account” and clicking on the “Archive of your older completed teams“ link. Your teams' stat totals, W/L records, league standings, rosters and player stat totals are accounted for and will be available to view.

Restoring these old teams to your account is the first step toward the restoration of manager ratings to our site. Now that the 2001 teams are in, the following teams will be restored as well in order: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 1969.

The process to restore these seasons is lengthy. The first step is just importing the huge amount of data from all of these old teams into our new website. Another hurdle to the process is that the database table structures are different for each of these sets as improvements were made to the structure every year. In order to transfer all of these teams to the site the structure needed to be normalized for each of the seasons. Lastly the longest step in the process of restoring these old teams is normalizing player ID numbers. On our site each player in the various sets that we offer have a unique ID number to identify a player. Previously, the players were only coded within their specific player set. In order to transfer the players over we needed to manually change these players codes to match those from our other sets. Teams, leagues, and even mail messages also have their own ID number that needed to be changed manually so each had their own unique number.

Now that the 2001 teams were added the process should be quicker for all subsequent sets. After the last of the remaining old teams are available managing ratings can then be restored using all of the data available on the site.

As always if anyone has any ideas for future topics, please send them in to onlinegamesupport@strat-o-matic.com.

-John
