Now available: alternate 2009 set with

Postby bernieh » Mon Mar 15, 2010 3:21 pm

For the first time ever, we are offering an alternate, selectable player set which consists of the 2009 season, [b:323bd028de]plus the 12 "Fluke" cards that were omitted from the standard set[/b:323bd028de].

I've affectionately and over-dramatically named this set [b:323bd028de]2009 season Unleashed[/b:323bd028de]. When selecting a set for a new or existing team, look for the new radio button labeled "2009 season Unleashed" under the description of the main 2009 set.

I don't expect this option to become The Next Hot Thing (feel free to prove me wrong); I simply offer this as a service for those who would like to see these extra cards in online play. Speaking of which, these 12 cards are now included in the official salary Excel spreadsheet, highlighted in blue.

More notes:

- Live Drafts for this new set are also now available.

- You can safely switch an existing 2009 team that hasn't drafted yet to the new set, without losing any of the players you've already put on your draft card.

- For more on our reasons for keeping the Fluke cards out of the default set, visit this wiki page.

Enjoy!

Thanks Bernie, for planning purposes, will this be the norm for each new set here on out???

I've put it to a vote in my keeper leagues, and at least for season 1, they've elected to use the standard set, but we may go with the Unleashed set for season 2.

I'd also love to know why certian other "flukey" cards were deemed acceptable, Patterson, Fuld and Salazar, for example, but guys that were close, Larish, Ruiz and Flores (Injury 6, c'mon he should be in) didn't make the cut.

You also posted in your blog some past omissions were regrettable, I'd be curious to know which ones?? ( Baerga 2003 perhaps?? )

Thanks again for making this available.

Niners, I'm not going to say I made all the right calls with the cuts, and it'd be self-defeating to defend each individual case. I just have one subjective criterion, which is "would he be too good?", so that would be the explanation I'd give.

I don't see why we wouldn't make this "Unleashed" option a habit going forward... unless literally [i:f06d4fe710]no one[/i:f06d4fe710] plays it. Feel free to eliminate that scenario!

Not sure the unleashed option is a good idea because it may take even longer to fill up leagues with "Auto league" settings. I could be wrong, though.

I am so glad that somebody else remembers Sam Horn, one my all time greats! Indeed, I mentioned his name in our discussion in one of our Keeper leagues when this option came up.

This really seems like a wasted effort. You made a whole new game out of 12 extra platoon players, expensive DHs, and crummy catchers?

The only guys I would even think about using are Ruiz and Aubrey.

Bernie,

Please go back to that wishlist of items we created and start working on those things. I think that will please a lot more people. I totally agree with wavygravy2k. These will just end up leading to more half-filled leagues.
