Father's Day Trivia

Postby katzenjammer » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:01 am

OK - I'll answer my own freaking trivia question since no one wanted to venture a guess.

You got your Felipe - Felipe Alou - who played mostly with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves.

You got your Jay - Jesus Alou - who played mostly with the San Francisco Giants.

You got your Matty - Matty Alou - who played mostly with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

And most famous of all, you got your Boog - that's right - Boog Alou - which played mostly in all the nightclubs in the entire world.

Wasn't so tough, was it?

Hey Tuv, I didn't check back and notice your follow-up trivia question. I knew the Matty, Jesus, and Felipe Alou rather easily.
The Boog Alou answer stumped me..........and still does!

The Other Alou

Postby mesquiton » Wed Jun 20, 2012 6:24 pm

Although his career began a few years after the other Alous had retired as active players (his father was still an active manager), there is of course another Alou: Moises Alou, son of Felipe and and nephew of Matty and Jesus (also cousin to Mel Rojas).

Excellent 17-season career in the NL, including several years managed by his father with the Expos and Giants. Career .303 with 2,134 hits, 421 doubles, 332 home runs, and 1,287 rbi, overall one of the better outfielders of the '90's and-00's.

Also noted as one of the few modern players who batted without gloves. Instead, he claimed that during the season he frequently urinated on his hands to toughen them up. Also never wore spikes, preferred Nike hi-tops.

Not as funny as Boog Alou, tho.

[quote:ae37ca8328="tuvthomas"]Can you name the four (4) Alous who played at relatively the same time?[/quote:ae37ca8328]

You forgot a 5th one. A Lou Pinella.
