A Marcus Wilby classic thread from one of the great pioneers of the game from way back in the early glory days of 2002...this thread deserves a BUMP

Yeah, but the thing is...the game changed a lot since them. Many advices are not as sound now as they were back then.

We should make another, new, beginner thread.

Is the draft strategy any different? Will HAL pitch hit more in which case I need a better ($$$) bench? Will I need to cut down on starters salaries in pitching and in field to boost bench strength? Will I need to have a bigger roster? Usually I go with min numbers to save money. Any advise is welcome. Thanks.

Where do I find the hitter's clutch rating?

If a $ sign is next to a hit, that's negative clutch (i.e., that hit becomes an out if it's man in scoring position/2 outs.) If the $ is next to an out, then it's positive clutch.

The number of "points" depends on where it is in the column.

If it's on a 7 roll, then it's 6 points.
If it's on a 6 or 8 roll, then it's 5 points.
5 or 9 roll -> 4 points
4 or 10 roll -> 3 points
3 or 11 roll -> 2 points
2 or 12 roll -> 1 point

So, if a player had a $ next to a hit on a 7 roll and another $ next to a hit on a 10 roll, then he'd have -9 total clutch points.

(Get used to this "points" notion, btw, because it's used often.)

Thank you very much Dean, that helps a ton.

Does the robo-umpire not enforce the rule against using your DH as a defensive substitute in the late innings? I just spotted this manuever in a box score and was a little surprised.
