Home Field Adv. vs. Injury

Home Field Adv. vs. Injury

Postby Palmtana » Tue Apr 11, 2006 12:28 pm

With 12 games to go in the regular season I am 1 game out of having the best record in the league. I just lost Tomas Perez for 15 games through the first game of the first playoff series. I have 2 15-game injury guys (Rolen and Clark) if I understand the injury rules correctly. All my other players have over 600 PA's. Perez's injury got me to wondering if I should sit Rolen and Clark for the remainder of the regular season. This would diminish my chances of having the best record though.

How have you handled this in the past?

As long as you have clinched a playoff spot sit your important players with less than 600 PA now. It doesn't matter if you win the division or are the wild card team as long as you make the playoffs. Home field means nothing if your star players are on the DL.

Do not sit your star players UNLESS you have clinched a playoff spot no matter what.

Thanks LMBombers. That makes sense. In the first post I mistakenly said I was 1 game back of the "division lead" when it should have read "league lead". Thus the homefield part of the question. I am 10 games up in the division, so to the bench they go.

On a related point I play the second place team in my division 6 times in the last 12 games and they are one game up in the wildcard race. So he may have a bit of an advantage playing against my reduced squad but as I recall from previous threads on the topic, ones attitude should be to take care of yourself first.

And while I'm here, JdEarly helped me a lot with this team in the early going so I'd like to give a thanks to him.

Palm, you've got it right. It's not fair for the other teams in the WC chase but you have to manage your team the way you feel is best. And healthy for the playoffs is best.

one other point, look at who your probable first round opponent is. [b:cb197839a9][u:cb197839a9]If[/u:cb197839a9][/b:cb197839a9] you can't win at their place, you may want to risk it to have a better record then them.
