I want my closer to pitch only the 9th inning

Postby rcf23 » Wed Mar 22, 2006 1:38 pm

Two times in 6 games already, HAL has brought in my 1 inning closer to start in the 8th inning with the lead. We can no longer set the player settings to 'Do not bring in before 9th inning.'
So how can I have my one inning closer only come in for the ninth?
Thanks for your help.

Do you have your closer setting on "maximize"? I think that's the best you can do with the "don't use before the 9th" setting gone.

rcf23,

do you know that a R1/C6 could work two innings without any problem.

The new settings really only affect C3 or less. If this is the case, then , yeah, you have a problem. Would make sure that your reliever is set as closer, with closer set at maximum, as suggested.

I am just picking my first 2006 team and forgot about this. Not a good move for me, because I too like to use cheap closers and only for the ninth. 2005 Graves isn't really good enough too pitch two, but I have had him consistently in top five in save % pitching only one inning.

This seems to be the exact reason that SOM decided to exclude the "before ninth inning" option....people were loading up on cheap relievers, and using guys like wagner, etc... in more of a setup role. I always liked to use cheap closers too...but this makes it more difficult to do, almost forcing you to have a stud closer in 2006, or at least use them for what they are intended for....

wow, i didn't even notice they changed that!!!

sneaky little devils!!

enyway, i'm trying the inexpensive total bullpen for 2006...

4-5 million stud who can close a couple.. r2c2+
2-2.5 lefty hopefully reverse....
1.5 cheap reverse rhp.
a couple of hard rh cheap-o's
1 hard lefty
cheap closer i like wickman...

.5 +- mopup dude....

maybe that's not so cheap but then i leave the settings alone and let HAL do the changes.....

in reference to akindian, I have found it quite hard to trowl for LH ers with a high LH rating. I have noticed a lot of blown saves with RH reverse rps. I have seen HAL not honor the reverse RH pitchers. In fact I have seen some of my reverse Rhs face more RH batters than my LH relievers. Anyone else seeing that?
