8. Select a home ball park that corresponds to one of your 2 selected exp era teams.

Dan: I'm not the commish, but I can't say that I agree with your interpretation of the rules, as the rule above states that the park must correspond "to one of your two selected [size=15:3d1b731ebe][b:3d1b731ebe]exp era[/b:3d1b731ebe][/size:3d1b731ebe] teams." (emphasis added) Clearly, if 2cityfan had intended for any ballpark to be used, he would have left out the words "exp era".

It appears that we are all required to use the expansion era ballparks used by our teams whether we like it or not.[/quote:3d1b731ebe]

Bernie, I am not sure what you are disagreeing with me on. 2CityFan is not our commish. Our commish carr20 does state in the rules:

[b:3d1b731ebe]Post WW 2 player set (EXPANSION ERA LEAGUE)

8. Select a home ball park that corresponds to one of your 2 selected exp era teams. [/b:3d1b731ebe]

Where was my interpretation not aligning with that? My Cin-exp includes players from the mid 60's through the mid 90's.

I intend to use Crosley '66 where the Reds played through 1970.

I agree that 50's parks and even '05 Great American would not be available because there are not players from those eras. But technically they are listed under the Post-WWII park listing for this franchise.

I just want it clear for all.

I just asked this question on cityfans league. I don't see how ballparks from as old as 1948 can be considered expansion era. The question isn't about corresponding teams but the time period considered for expansion era.[/quote:1dd78deeca]

I agree Doug and 1961 representing the expansion era makes perfect sense to me I(as you suggested elsewhere). But in this league I still don't think I should be able to pick Great American '05, for example, becasue my CIN-exp roster never played in that park.

I am pretty sure there are a lot of people (including me) that selected their exp franchise, in part at least, based on ballparks available for that franchise. I certainly did this with Crosley for the Reds. This one is an easy call.

There may be other franchise pairs where the call is tougher. Such as my example if I had wanted to use Great American '05. I believe that is outside the boundaries of our intent.

But if you sort the Post WWII player set you get a lot of parks, many of which may not apply to the exp rosters. We just need clarification of the rule.

I would suggest one of two options:

1. You can use any park listed as post WWII player set browser/ballparks list[u:1daef80f31][b:1daef80f31] and [/b:1daef80f31][/u:1daef80f31] used by your franchise during the "era" represented by the roster (I am sure we will all be reasonable).

Or more simply, we have option 2:

2. We can simply have each owner state his intented park and we can voice objections if necessary. I am sure we will all be fair.

As I said, I plan to use Crosley '66 for now, until I see what other parks come with my second franchise. :D

I think this would also help each of us form our rosters by knowing what parks are in our division. i.e. it will save a lot of time making adjustments in the preseason. Just my 2 cents.

Ball Parks

Postby carr20 » Sat Mar 31, 2012 3:17 pm

It was my interpretation of the rules that ballparks had to be parks from the expansion era. Given that the cards for the expansion era began in 1967, me feeling was and is that the park has to be from 1967 onward through 2005.

Obviously, Crosley '66 does not meet that criterion, missing by a year.

Having said that, it is correct that the "expansion era" Reds played there until Riverfront opened.

Personally, I don't feel strongly either way. If someone has an objection to the use of Crosley '66, speak up now and also let us know if you are willing to let it be subject to a vote of the owners...

Steve- I suggest everyone state their intended ballpark and we then voice any concerns, vote on them if necessary, then move forward. It would be hard for me to believe that I would not be allowed to use Crosley '66, which was used by the Reds through 1970. The park is listed in the Post-WWII set and was used by my CIN-exp team. It is incidental thet there is not a Crosley '67 available. It was also part of the reason I picked the Reds first, frankly, they match well with that park. At least I thought they did.

This will likely be the case with a handful of teams. My example of Great American '05 is the best example. Though that is from the expansion era, not a single player from my CIN-exp roster played in that park. To me that is outside the "spirit" of the expansion era rules than the Crosley example.

I am fairly certain there will be a number of judgment calls like this for multiple owners, so please let's not just make this an about Crosley. I had simply stated my intent openly and used it as an example to illustrate the issue. If I'd have said nothing and just used that park I don't think anyone would have objected, as it is clearly part of the exp era for the Reds.

Thanks,
Dan

Guys:

Let's get the ballpark thing settled. I propose that people be permitted to use any park for either of their franchises from 1963 to the present, thereby expanding my earlier interpretation of 1967 to the present. That will permit Dan to use Crosley '66 and open up a few additional choices for others. I really don't think anything prior to 1963 would be considered an expansion park. BUT if someone intended to use a pre-'63 park, speak up now and let the group weigh in on that park.

Unless you intend to use a pre-'63 park, I do not believe it appropriate to require the others to reveal the park choice until all 12 teams have picked their franchises; at that point we can reveal the parks that we intend to use while we are loading. That will permit people to tweak rosters prior to loading.

Please respond with your thoughts.
