Does Fregosi just SUCK ?

Our historical single season sets

Postby kenhutchings » Sun Aug 02, 2009 8:59 pm

During the 1968 season, I had the opportunity of attending four separate California Angels games. Even though he hit only nine home runs that entire season, Fregosi (who my older sister had a crush on) hit a home run in each of the games that we attended. In fact, in one of the games, he hit for the cycle (I believe it was against the Red Sox, if my memory serves me right).

I've never had Fregosi on any of my '69 teams. If I'm not able to get Petrocelli, I'd rather go with Aparicio or Kubiak and use my extra $$s on another position.

Fergosi

Play him at leadoff in a hitter's park. He's a decent fielder and tablesetter. He also hits homeruns every once in awhile. He's definitely not to be placed in an RBI position in the lineup.

I hate Fregosi so much that I never put Petrocelli in my draft lists because if you miss out on Petro, Fregosi is the 2nd highest salaried SS and he's who you get.

I have Kubiak and Bud Harrelson right now in two different teams and they are doing well. Another one who sucks is Denis Menke. He killed me one season. Never had Fregosi

Mixed Emotions

Fregosi can do well as a table-setter and has a decent glove. But he needs hitter's parks to do well. He's a hit or miss pick.

Well, I'm going to add my name to the "yes he does suck" list.

I didn't draft him, but picked him up reluctantly on waivers. My team played at Fenway, which is probably the best park fit possible for him. In my division, I had a Yankee Stadium (not so good), and a Metropolitan and Tiger's which should have put him in about the most favorable light possible. The league is predominantly hitter's parks. This is what I got out of him batting 7th or 8th:

113 415 53 101 14 6 8 54 60 54 3 1 .243 .335 .364

My team is a last place team, and Fregosi was certainly no help.
