Does Fregosi just SUCK ?

Postby TomSiebert » Sun Dec 18, 2005 9:27 pm

I've seen a couple entries knocking him and he's stinking up the joint for me at leadoff after 18 games in Busch:

Fregosi, Jim 75 4 4 1 6 6 0 3 .187 .280 .244

Anybody had any luck w/ him at all? At this point, I'm screwed because there's not a decent SS left, but I wasted a 2nd round pick on him because after Petrocelli he was the only N-power guy from both sides who could field and get on base respectably (or so it seemed). Makes me wonder if all those choke $ingles got misprogrammed as all-the-time outs....

yo balmer...sorry I missed that league. he DOES suck. had him on this 90-win team, and after leading the way the first week, he fell under .200 and ended up at .222 with about a .313 obp. I would NEVER lead him off, but he's still the best option next to petro as an everyday ss, long as $$ aren't too hard to come by.

p.s. there are SOOOO few decent ss options, I just traded curt flood for him straight up in a preseason figuring I had a better chance to get an acceptable cf than ss after autodraft pluckinghttp://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/1969/team/team_other.html?user_id=3941

YES. I rate him as the 6th best SS pick behind Rico, Aparicio, Kessinger, Cardenas and Brinkman. I would also rate him behind Belanger except for the 15 game injury possibility.

Thanks guys, for confirming my unfortunate hypothesis....

Meat, good to hear from you....sorry you're not in our league either; I gave a shout-out on the Iron Range league a week or so after the season ended, but there were only 4 spots left at that point and they filled too fast, I guess....

Fregosi went 4-15 in a three game series last night, even managing to drive in both runs in the opener, a 2-1 win. I'm still wondering if there's some glitch in his program, though....consistently bad numbers at the plate -- even in places like Shibe -- suggest somebody at SoM screwed the pooch in the program. :(

agree on cardenas, he was golden for me, and aparicio too...not so sure I'd rather have kessinger or brinkiman than fregosi, except for the money, which doesn't seem as hard to come by in 1969 as the 200x cards. still a solid defender, n power both ways, who's SUPPOSSED to be able to get on base, but never seems to come close to those numbers.

I wish the Mets brass had bothered to play a few seasons of '69 before trading Ryan and 3 others for Fregosi back in '71!

I am in a league called "Lively Ball League". It only has hitters parks in it. Fregosi is on a team managed by Novie and in a league designed to pump up offensive numbers, thru 147 games he is hitting:

BA .243
OBP .327
SLG .358

He has 10 home runs and 47 rbis.

I actually had decent numbers from Fregosi. I had him batting second all season on a 90 win team at Fulton Co. Stadium. His final numbers were .277, .407, and .345 obp. with 14 HR, 75 RBIs, and 100 RS. I made it to the finals and he was my best player, though I lost 4 straight after winning the first three.

HAL hates him

I have him on 1 team but forgot to set lineups for opening night. HAL didn't use him. So, what does that tell you?

After a fairly hot week

He's picked it up a bit. 36 games played to date:

.264BA .341OBA .378SLG

Hardly the ideal leadoff guy, but at least respectable.
