Vacation Day

Postby GordieHowe » Tue Nov 10, 2009 12:29 am

Gentlemen:

Please be advised that I will be out of town and unreachable on Tuesday, November 10th, returning around 1:00pm on November 11th. I'm in the Western Division. Your understanding and patience is appreciated.

Or we can just drop the gloves...

Thanks for the heads-up Mr. Howe!

And from personal observation, a rule of thumb:

OK to drop the gloves on Gretzky (ask Neal Broten)

NOT OK to drop the gloves on Gordie!

[quote:d2b38f36e9]Later in that 1963-64 season, Mark Kram wrote in Sports Illustrated: "Despite an even temperament and a real distaste for combat, there is a part of Howe that is calculatingly and primitively savage. He is a punishing artist with a hockey stick, slashing, spearing, tripping and high-sticking his way to a comparative degree of solitude on the ice."[/quote:d2b38f36e9][/quote]

I see one is set for 1999 set. Looks like might be fun for our next 1969 league.

Newman, I LIKE the idea! Sort of like a prehistoric Rotiserrie league (as there was no such animal in 1969)

Takes a long time for live draft but sounds like fun
1999 Auction league. Here's how it works:

Auction League, 1999 set, DH. No trades, no FAs. Your 25 is your 25. $200 mill salary cap, $80 mill to spend. Unique ballparks.

We've done this with ATGIV and are doing a second one in ATGIV as well as one in 2008, the auction part takes about six months and as all previous participants (four of them here so far) will confirm, it's not a drag at all, but big fun.

We start with five hitters and three pitchers - the first eight sign-ups will make the first nominations. Bidding starts at a minimum of 10% of the player's value and can be increased in increments of $100K. Any time 24 hours passes without a bid on a player, that player is awarded to the last person that placed a bid and that person makes the next nomination. You have $80 million to spend on the auction though the actual total salary of all players on your team is $200 mill, which is effectively no cap. Ballparks must also be bid on and can be nominated at any time when a pitcher is due for a nomination.

If you're interested to see how it works, this is our present ATG auction thread:

And these are our 2008 threads:

http://forums.sportingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=579598

And this is the previous one:

which you can see took five months to complete

Yes, I am in the ATGIV auction league - round 2 now actually - it is a great way to stretch your credit enjoyment over a longer time. I would be interested in a '69 auction, but not a '99.

I'd also be interested in a '69 auction league.
