Why did HAL pick Neil Allen over Quisenberry all season?

Postby Mythical Birds » Tue Jan 24, 2012 8:05 pm

I let Hal pick my pitchers right up until near the end. He consistently used Neil Allen in relief instead (twice as much as Quis) and even after I set that Quis was my designated set up man (to try to get him more innings) the same 2:1 ratio of Allen:Quisenberry. I thought maybe Allen's mystery card would be better than Quis's BUT NO. I actually had Quis's 85 card with a real life ERA of 2.37 and Allen's card was his 88 with a real life ERA of 3.84. During the league Quis pitched only 46 innings and ended up with a 2.92 ERA and Allen pitched a whopping 107 innings and had a 4.46 ERA. Why did this happen? :?:

HAL's choice of bullpen use is questionable at best. I can't really say exactly why he did that.

All I know is that the 70s and 80s games will get a major boost once bullpen v2 is incorporated when the games move to the main site.
Then roles could be used and the bullpen will be handled a little better, but not much.

If HAL doesn't pick the best pitcher in a mystery-card game where you don't set your pitchers, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. The idea is for you to figure out which card your pitchers may have--not let HAL clue you in.

However, in games without Bullpen V2, I will agree relief pitching is frustrating even when you do set your pitchers.

Why some managers think HAL is smarter than they are is beyond me. Never let HAL decide who to play IMO.

HAL has a preference for players that played in NY.

I agree with LM. It happened because you were foolish enough to let HAL determine who would pitch out of the pen. Don't believe everything you read.
