Relievers: CALLING-------------TEEPACK----------

I don't remember how we are dealing with this issue this year. I have one R3 who is heading for 213 innings.

[quote:8f369070a9]VIII. Relief Pitcher Usage

No manager may use a reliever for more than 200 innings of relief in a regular season. This is an effort to keep managers from abusing relievers. Any manager found to be in violation of this limit will be penalized 10 Tournament Points per reliever who goes over 200 innings. [/quote:8f369070a9]

Thanks for the reply.

Another question: if I trade my reliever when he reaches 150 innings for another one who gives my team 75 innings, I am still respecting the rules?

Similar question: if the reliever is traded at 150 innings, is he allowed to get more than 50 innings for the team I trade him to?

I'll go one better. That rule is a carryover from when we had the Super Reliever Crisis back in '02 and '03. We didn't have the stud R3's that we do now (maybe one in '02 if I remember). It was the R2's that were abusing this.

Should an R3 be subjected to the same limit?

Just a question mind you, but there would seem to be an exception to be made possibly.

For the record, I don't have a single team (nor have I had a single team yet) with an R3.

200 innings for [b]any[/b ]reliever is already too generous whether he is a R3 or not.

C'mon guys, I need an answer: can a reliever pitch over 200 innings spread out in two different teams?

luckyman - i personally dont feel that violates the rules, but you would need a bernie or teepack ruling here. i would say go ahead, especially since we are so early on, and if it turns out that you cant, they shouldnt penalize you this round for it, since it isnt clear.

Sorry to chime in, but the rule seems pretty clear to me..."No manager may use a reliever for 200 IP..." It is clearly singular. It does not say no two managers or more may use the same reliever for 200 IP or more. For it to mean otherwise, it would say Managers may not use a reliever for 200 IP combined or more and both would receive the penalty. The whole paragraph speaks in the singular.

Next year the rule should clearly state the only way to get rid of a reliever headed for 200 IP is to drop him and face the 20% penalty. Using a reliever for 105 IP in 81 games clearly violates the spirit of the rule.

Besides, you are considered an expert in the strato world, you know how to set the setttings to make sure he does not violate the rule. But a trade is a wiser way around the rule. The problem is it is "getting around the rule".
