Question for Commish: Reliever 200 IP Rule

The posted rules don't seem to mention a penalty for using relievers more than 200 IP in the Semis or Finals. Hasn't been an issue in the past, but with the new bullpen settings it's easy to go over with almost any R2 or R3.

I assume the 200 IP limit applies the same as in other events, and honorable folks will voluntarily observe it. But with Kuo on my Semi team, I don't want to be the only one (he tells me he can go 300 if I let him).

Does exceeding 200 IP in the Semis disqualify one from the finals? Or in the finals, disqualify for the title? If not, what is the penalty, if any?

Thanks.

I personally think 200 inning max is way too high to begin with, and don't see why the rules would change for the semi's. I'd much prefer to see the limit set at 150 IP for bullpen guys next year.

Wooopsy :( Sorry for the late check and reply on this fellas. My mind's been elsewhere (obviously).

Thank you Mesq for bringing this to the fore now and allowing us to make a call on it earlier on.

I say we stick to the 200 IP rule. Its a good point to update for next year's rules and I'm glad that good gent noticed and pointed it out instead of just exploiting it. Thank you.

So, just like with the parks and other rules that carry from regular season play onto semis and finals let's keep this rule as well as used during the qualifying rounds.

Should be interesting, since we have a total of 6 rp that are on pace to surpass 200 innings in Semifinal League 2...

Update: I think that pace in League 2 is down to just 2 relievers on pace for 200 IP now. My two who "were" on pace are now down to a pace for around 185 IP, which gives me a comfort level. It's easy to have someone go over 200, but it's also easy to manage the settings to come under as well.

Much agreed Jeep, it IS easy to control RPs to fit the current 200 IP limit.

Thanks for the update :)

So, what is the penalty?

Hopefully we can go to 150 for next year.

Well, hopefully we can all honor the rules and keep us from going over 200, in case that we don't I believe it would be fair to play it as in regular qualifying events and deduce 25 points from the total.

IF after the 25 point deduction the team that went over 200 IP would've still made the playoffs then the team goes on to the finals,IF, however, after the 25 point deduction the team would NOT have qualified then the next best team in the same league would take the spot.

Doesn't this make it "within the rules" for a manager to absorb a strategic 25pt penalty and win the title and all those TSN prizes by squeezing 300IP from a super-reliever or two?

Seems to give some of us an effective waiver of the 200IP limit in the semis and finals, others get the death penalty. Seems unfair to me.

IMHO, the rule and penalty should be the same for all in the semis and finals, violators should be disqualified.

Fair enough, we can DQ.

The way I saw it even if you win 100 games in regular season play (in the semis) it would be hard to still have had qualified with 75 wins to the playoffs. I'd say that in order for the RP overusage strategy to pay off one would have to secure 115 wins and after the penalty stand at 90 points.

But you are right Mesq. as long as there is a way of abusing it its best if we just make a clean cut. Over 200=DQ.
