Reliever settings

Reliever settings

Postby Mr Baseball World » Wed May 30, 2012 2:35 pm

I have many questions . To start:

If I have an SP/RP who is an 8L and set him to avoid lefties(and don't use before 8th inning), will that limit HAL's use to next to nothing? My thinking is that it is set to avoid lefties and because he is an 8L, HAL will have the sense to not bring him in specifically to face righties. Or will HAL think that since I said avoid lefties that that means I want him facing righties.

avoid lefties means it will avoid LH hitter, not what you want. You want to check avoid righties.

Also about him being used next to nothing, depends on the strength of you entire staff to as much work he'll see. It's possible he sees more than you like, including RH hitting, if there isn't adequate RP available.

I want him to avoid both(figured that common sense and a deep staff would keep him from facing righties and brilliant plan to avoid lefties would take of the rest) . It is a 200 mill league 24 teams and I have 5 RP only guys in the 2-4 mill range and strong 4 man rotation. noticed him when I was messing with some settings and worried about this for nothing as 69 games in and with no settings he hasn't pitched..........Zito has got some innings I would prefer he not get so need to do something on him though.

you'll need to set quick hook and 1-2 innings
If you set him as a lefty specialist, he'll basically be used vs lefties, but if it is a L/R/L then he may stay in

Put him in your rotation but fill the per game starters boxes with only the guys you want to start

I set those guys as the 5th starter in my rotation. And then I always manually enter starting pitchers for each series. That keeps them out of the pen

You can also set him to avoid both left and right. I do that with my batters when I have clinched the season and don't want them to bat. It works except the time when Youlkis came in at the bottom of the 22nd inning of game number 162 and got hurt for 6 games.
