I've tried extreme stealing teams several times in '86.

Here's a 551 steal team: (100M DH won 94 games)

Here's a 516 steal team: (80M no-DH won 90 games)

Here a way less successful '99 team with 422 steals (80M no-DH won 80 games)

oh my god. Ty Cobb got caught 70 times that season? that's incredible. I am happy when I get Tim Raines to be safe 70 times lol

I think it would probably be very difficult to have a winning ATG team with an extreme number of steals. Every night you would be facing elite catchers with great arms. A guy like Cobb getting nailed 70 times wouldn't be all that uncommon, I would think.

I really wish SOM would bring on some more single seasons from the past where stealing is way more important tool in the arsenal. '86 is by far the best. '69 just doesn't have enough OBP potential to really go nuts. I'd really like to see them introduce a mid to late 70 single season when Ricky, Ozzie, Raines, Coleman, LeFlore, etc. were really in their prime.

I say 1982 myself. I agree 86 isn't enough but it has all facets of the game on offer strategy wise. I haven't played a season of anything but 86 yet simply because of loved 80's baseball and really love SB's.

I think in the 200x game, 500 steals is the holy grail and 400 is still
excellent. It can be very set dependent, as some sets just lack base stealers at the positions where you would expect they would be lacking. Here are a couple of mine that stole and won:

Here is a crazy 795 steals from the 80's game with five guys who stole 95 bases. Drafted all the fast guys and caught all the good years. Second best ever is 578. Learned a lesson though, as I cut Grich to grab Doran for a few more steals and he was bad while Grich was an MVP candidate. Now I always make winning the priority. Might have stolen 775 AND won a championship, which makes it all the more sweeter. Check out Ty Cobb, I mean Tim Raines-.372/133R/128RBI/114SB
