An almost perfect team name

An almost perfect team name

Postby coyote303 » Thu May 17, 2012 12:03 am

I enjoy naming my teams. Some of them have been named using World of Warcraft as a basis. My most recently completed team was the Ironforge Fire Mages.

This team started cold; got hot and took over first place. Then they got cold permanently falling to second place, got hot, and finally they got cold again, barely limping into the playoffs. All teams have streaks and slumps, but this was like coaching two completely different teams. Once in the playoffs, they caught fire and won my first championship in a l-o-n-g time.

I should have named my team the Ironforge Fire [i:b214d2f44f]and Frost[/i:b214d2f44f] Mages. They were the masters of hot and cold.

Anyone else have any stories about their choice of team names?

I've tried out a few different themes.

I did a series of ATG VI live drafts with Aerosmith songs:

Sweet Emotion
What It Takes
Last Child
Back in the Saddle
Janie's Got a Gun
Mama Kin
Chip Away the Stone

I did a tribute to my significant other, who is originally from Germany, for the Good People tournament one year:

Bayerische Lederhosen
Ingolstädter Herr der Ringe
Nürnberger Lebkuchen
Münchner Doppelbock

One year for the Player's Championship I did all Seinfeld references:

Kramerica Industries
Manzier Bros
Happy Festivus
No Soup For You
Serenity Now
Magic Lugees

Lastly, every year I do at least one OFET (One From Every Team) league, so I try to come up with a team name that matches that spirit:

Eclectic Electrics
New Jersey Plan
Diversified Investments
Mutually Exclusive

There are lots of others reasons behind my team names sometimes, but those are the ones that really had specific themes directing me to a team name. One thing I take pride in is uniqueness; I've never used the same team name twice.

I don't have the imagination or creativity you guys have. I gave up and just name all my teams the Pile Drivers because I work for a Pile Driving company. I did have the foresight not to use roman numerals to differentiate between teams, because I am now on team number DCCXXIX.

My favorite one was in a Cutthroat League where if you got swept the other team took one of your players.

Columbian Neckties
Manager Capt' Jack Sparrow

In a Screw your Neighbor Theme League it is

Fence Jumpin' Fornicators.

I have found that the names I like the most also seem to do better.
