The Secret Formula 2011

[b:3e891e5637]tonysbest[/b:3e891e5637],

Right off the bat, my drive-by observation is that your core offense is incredibly strong (Cabrera, Beltre, Holliday, Guerrero). I have other preferences at the other positions, but that's just me.

Your pitching, outside of Lester, is suspect. Adams is an R1/CO, not really a true closer (although he's a very good RP). Post a link, let's see the ballparks and competition, and I'm sure we can collectively generate some things to consider.

Thx [b:8d39d38e84]Key[/b:8d39d38e84],

I thought I was the only one here!

Ironically, I think the "jack of all trades" is [i:8d39d38e84]precisely[/i:8d39d38e84] the strategy to be pursuing!! TSF sure appears to be just that - no $10 mil plus hitters, no $7 mil plus pitchers (usually) on most of these teams.

[b:b3b73d365b]tonysbest[/b:b3b73d365b],

Here's my Theory in Action team, more or less bandaged up and ready to go (with an eye on drops into the FA pool).

Hopefully you can start here for some food for thought. Also, before you go "all righty bats", get familiar with Jake Arrieta's card. Someone will use him with high effectiveness every time they play you (which could be a lot if he's in your division).

OK, now I just feel even worse about my teams!

Actually, I've found myself relying, somewhat successfully lately, on 2 or 3 really strong pitchers, and 1 or 2 cheapie's with no/low BPHRs...along with 3 sub $3M relievers, coupled with as strong as an offense as I can afford with the remaining money, and play in places like the Cell or Great American.

I should check the salary spread when I get home, would be interesting to see how it matches up with what you've posted.

Can you post a link to your team?

[b:cd2fb52eb2]Hackdog99[/b:cd2fb52eb2],

I don't play these versions (is that ATG?) I don't have any idea how these teams perform, but it looks like you're doing pretty well![/quote:cd2fb52eb2]

I'm playing 1986. I will play 2011 when it comes out but otherwise I'll just stick to 1986 for a few tries I think.

I should have been clearer

What I posted was an ideal secret formula team= not one that I actually have. All those palyers were within a few thousand of what the ideal would be for their draft ;position.

No problem. It may be somewhat counterintuitive, but I like to build from the bottom. Guys like Guerrero are perfect $1 mil guys. DH - check. Who's the $2 mil guy? $3 mil? I often choose my 1B last for the simple reason that so many are available at any given time. On my Theory in Action team, Cabrera was a waiver pick. It's nice when that happens. :D

J-Pav-
I agree especially for this set. So many good cards with low prices in my opinion. When I get the right ones I can then have high injury guys that have sick cards...when they go down I do not suffer as badly. I love this years set. I will miss it when the new cards come out.
