I can't say that I have, although I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with Camden. My opinion is this: take advantage of the extremes, whether it be RFK or The Cell. As you move closer to the middle, you surrender ballpark advantages to your opponents, which gives them an edge you are not benefiting from when you are in your home field.

If there is a disadvantage to Camden, this is probably the reason. The same goes for places like Minute Maid and Yankee Stadium, and also a few others.

managing vs backward pitchers

I am a first time player online but a long time strat player

One issue that hurt me at first but I have adapted to well enough (so far) is that you cannot preset your manager to deal with backward pitchers (ie... the righty who kills lhb and vice versa) so some guys i noted, will start a low cost one sided pitcher and he ends up dominating platoon lineups.

The only way to combat this is to either balance your lineup with lefties and righties or

you can try to look series by series and set your lineups as best you can vs the 3 pitchers you will face. I hate it when I have to face Chris Young who murders LHB and in the same series someone like Derek Lowe, who murders RHB. In those situations, you have no choice but to go for balance.

[b:174f0056d7]Bernie[/b:174f0056d7] mentions something about this in his "[i:174f0056d7]SOM Online: What's to come[/i:174f0056d7]" thread:

[quote:174f0056d7="bernieh"][b:174f0056d7]Expanded lineup control[/b:174f0056d7]
Note: This is a [i:174f0056d7]possible[/i:174f0056d7] new feature - not a certainty. But time willing, I would definitely love to add either 1) default "reverse" lineups a la the CD-ROM game (simpler), or 2) lineups per game or per pitcher (harder). [i:174f0056d7]Again, please don't discuss this in this thread; a new thread will be started for this[/i:174f0056d7].[/quote:174f0056d7]

"Balance" in your team, not just hitting, but with an eye toward pitching, defense, speed, ops, etc. has become increasingly important in effective online rosters.

My best 2007 team.. I followed the guidelines discussed above. My question.. How do you win in the playoffs? This team cruised in the regular season and lost in the semi's..

Wow, you gotta love it when a plan comes together.

Sorry about the playoffs. My only 100 win team in the last two years also lost the semis. The big conspiracy theory for this year is that HAL won't let it happen for the 100 win teams in '07.

Playoffs are coin flips, there's really no getting around it. You just have to make the playoffs and hope.

Thanks for posting your team, I hope the stuff you found on the boards really did help you.
