Looking forward to it JPav. There are some good players in this league. Should be fun. After the draft tonite, take a peek at my team if you would for corrections to the Secret Formula.

The Secret Formula isn't meant to be too rigid. A lot will depend on the parks and opposing lineups, but I'll be happy to throw out my two cents. See you at 11:10pm CST!

Couldn't resist the temptation to to scramble a team together the last moment. With any luck in the draft, I'll have my $20 to $22 staff resisting all temptations to join the Secret Formula club :D :D :D

I think 3b is important also. I'd rather have a CF-3 (assuming a decent arm and e rating) and 3b 1 or 2 than visa versa.

For example, I won a few '69 championships with Jimmy Wynn in CF
(3, -1, e6, monster card). My 3b were C. Boyer/R. Santo/J. Kenney. And only the best at ss/2b; which was a "2", there were no ss 1s and only 1 2b 1 (Millan), which I had sometimes.

NHS - I think someone somewhere (Lucky no doubt) posted that the order of X chances (range factor rolls) for fielders goes like:

1) SS
2) 2B
3) CF/3B
4) 1B
5) LF/RF/P
6) C

Again, going from memory so someone with better knowledge should follow-post. Even though 3B & CF get same # of X chances, I can see an argument for 3B because a good 3B will help you turn DPs...

Actually, it is
1) SS - 6 chances
2) 2B - 5
3) CF/3B - 3
4) All others 2 (C may be 3)

DPs are a big issue. But an OF 4 or 5 is also.

True, CF and 3B have similar X-chance, but bad CF is more damageable because it can allow doubles and triples (while 3B are almost limited to single or 1-base error, except for the cases of single+error).

So by combining X-chance and potential damage, the importance of defensive positions goes in this order:

1)ss
2)2b
3)cf
4)3b
5)rf (arm rating has more impact here than in lf)
6)lf
7)1b/pitching

...with catching bearing an importance I can't really quantify.

Ive seen

many good teams built by keeping piching salaries in the $24-25 range relative to hitting. Ive made my salary structure-to a degree-park dependent-and have skewed it more towrds pitching in hitters parks. But the key for me has been getting the good CHEAP value players-especially sub $1 relievers who can do an adequate job. Also, Ive notice that $3-$5 SPs seem to do as well as the expensive studs in this set. That wasnt the case in '05 though, and might not be in '07.
